March is Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, which means it’s officially time to celebrate the incredible contributions women have made throughout history. But let’s not just talk about it—let’s create something together! This March, I’m not just encouraging you to celebrate women’s history; I’m inviting you to make a little history of your own. How? Through art, of course. And if you’re a mom with a child between the ages of 6 and 9, I’ve got something extra special for you: a mother-child art class designed to unleash your creativity and give you a memory you’ll both cherish forever. You can sign up right now on my website, Howington Art Studio.

Let’s face it, moms: we all know kids grow up way too fast. One minute they’re toddling around, and the next they’re rolling their eyes at your jokes. (Okay, maybe that happens way sooner than expected.) Especially for daughters ages 5 to 9, there’s a sweet spot where they still think you’re the coolest person ever. Why not capture that moment in a fun, creative way? These art classes aren’t just about painting pretty pictures; they’re about spending quality time together, laughing, learning, and letting your creative juices flow… even if one of you gets more paint on your hands than the canvas.

We’ll be working in small groups of up to five pairs, so it’s an intimate and relaxed vibe—no pressure, no judgment, and definitely no “I can’t even draw a stick figure” excuses. Trust me, this is about bonding, not perfection. Plus, you’ll get a chance to meet other moms and daughters, so it’s kind of like a mini social event with a splash of creativity. Who needs a wine and paint night when you can have juice boxes and glitter paint?

Speaking of glitter, let’s talk about why this ties perfectly into Women’s History Month. Women have been trailblazers in the arts for centuries, even when society wasn’t exactly cheering them on. From Frida Kahlo’s vibrant self-portraits to Georgia O’Keeffe’s iconic flowers (don’t even start with the jokes, you know the ones), women have been using art to tell their stories, break barriers, and shake things up. And now, it’s your turn! Whether you’re a seasoned doodler or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush since third grade, this class is about tapping into that same bold, creative spirit. Plus, your daughter will see firsthand that creativity is not only fun but also empowering.

Oh, and let’s not forget the keepsake factor. When the class is over, you’ll walk away with a collaborative masterpiece you and your daughter created together. Imagine looking at that piece five, ten, twenty years from now and being instantly transported back to this fun, messy, joyful moment. (Also, if your daughter turns out to be the next Picasso, you’ll have early evidence for her future retrospective. Just saying.)

The best part? You don’t need any fancy skills or supplies—just a willingness to try something new and have fun. I’ll provide all the materials, from paint and brushes to the canvases and other items you’ll be painting on. But make sure to wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind having stray splatters get on. The classes will be hosted right here in my studio, a warm and welcoming space where creativity thrives. It’s the perfect setting for letting your imaginations run wild.

Now, if you’re worried about schedules, don’t be. These classes are designed to fit into your busy lives. They’ll be 1 and a hug hour long on a weekend. Since it’s a small group setting, spots are limited, so be sure to snag yours before they’re gone. Just head over to Howington Art Studio and sign up. Seriously, don’t wait until March 31st and say, “Oh, I should’ve done that.” Procrastination and creativity do not mix—trust me on this.

So, why not celebrate Women’s History Month by creating a little history of your own? Show your child that being creative, bold, and a little messy is all part of what makes life beautiful. Sign up for an art class, and let’s make some magic together. Whether you’re painting rainbows, flowers, or an abstract masterpiece that only you two can decode, it’ll be a memory you’ll both treasure. And hey, maybe this is just the start of a lifelong artistic journey for you and your mini-me.

Here’s to making art, making memories, and making March one for the books. I can’t wait to see you in the studio!

Let’s be friends!
